It’s that time of year again! The flowers and budding trees are blooming, the weather is warming up, and lake lovers are ready after a long winter to embrace the great outdoors. So why not make the most of your East Tennessee lake home spaces so you can enjoy them to the fullest this year?
To prepare for this spring’s season on the lake, we have gathered some of our Lake Teams top favorite new trends and furnishings to share that will brighten up your home and get you ready for another great year on the lake!
Outdoor Work Spaces
More than ever, people are working at home. In fact, East Tennessee and the lakes have been a major hotspot for people wanted to get out of larger cities and have a better quality of life. Working outside has become a logical extension of that trend, whether your lake home is your primary residence or a second home getaway. Creating a covered outdoor space as a part of your lake view porch gives you a peaceful area to enjoy the fresh air while still having some protection from wind, sun, and rain. Just add furniture and an optional outlet/USB port for your electronics, and you’re open for business!
Custom Décor and 3D Lake Art!
With the current disruption to manufacturing supply chains, sourcing vintage was huge trend of 2021. This year, lake home owners will take it one step further by putting their stamp on custom pieces that are locally or small business made!
We will also see a push towards 3D art in 2022. People are looking to add whimsey, intrigue and life to flat walls as we continue to spend more time in our homes. Any art that pops right off the wall like wood and metal cutouts of lake shapes, is going to be very popular this year.

Green isn’t going anywhere
We don’t need to tell you that green is one of the most popular colors of the moment. But in 2022, we’re going to see green on more than just kitchen cabinetry. We’re predicting tons of green tile showers, green painted walls, and even some deep green exteriors. With many lake homes exteriors being neutral or earthy tones, we love this trend!
Dark Woody Tones
Paint colors aren’t the only thing getting softer and warmer in 2022—our wood stains are, too. “Manufacturers have developed a happy medium between ultra-dark furniture and super washed-out gray tones,” Bartone says. Warm, medium-tone woods are already popular in flooring, but she says we should see more “lightly stained wood oak” furniture and décor in the coming year.
We’re predicting a noticeable shift towards darker wood toned furniture pieces paired with moody paint colors for a more dramatic look.

Pattern Heavy Elements
While committing to a pattern can feel intimidating, there are countless ways to incorporate more patterns into your space that don’t involve covering your walls from floor to ceiling. Think patterned textiles, rugs, and even artwork! It’s all about playing with scale and maintaining a consistent color palette to keep your space feeling consistent and interesting.
One of the ways we like to see this in lake homes are fun window blinds, textured and pattern rugs, pillows, etc!
Sustainable Living
Okay, so sustainable living has and always will be in style, but we have seen a huge resurgence in home decor and remodeling styles based on sustainable furniture and materials. For example, you can update your home using recycled and reclaimed materials like repurposed stone for countertops or wood for high ceiling beams that have been salvaged, refurbished, or re-manufactured. If adding a boat dock find materials that are are non-corrosive and non-pollutant to create a better environment for your family and the lake!
Curved Furniture
Curvy furniture is about to have a heyday. As we continue to shift away from straight-lined minimalism and toward cozier interiors, our furniture is getting softer and more sculptural.
“2022 is going to be full of round-edged, organically shaped furniture,” Kirsten Conner, principal designer at Kirsten Connor Interior Design, says, and other designers agree.
“We are seeing lots of curves in furniture to provide an environment of comfort and calm,” Bartone says. “Nearly every manufacturer—from ultra-high-end to more budget-friendly vendors—is incorporating soft lines, arcs, and curves into their furniture.”
